For the sake of democratization of the country, especially in the United States, scholars and observers place considerable responsibility on the shoulders of the new media for the current state of American politics and culture.

When the term new media was first introduced, critics who studied it entered the realm of hope to evaluate whether new forms of technology could foster participation, raise citizens’ awareness of politics, and redefine interaction.
